Watseka CUSD #9 provides language support services for Pre-K through high school students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who have been identified as English Learners (EL). During registration, if a language other than English is identified by parents on the Home Language Survey, a student is screened to assess their English proficiency.
If the screener determines a student to be Limited English Proficient (LEP), that student qualifies for support in the transition to English. Transitional Program of Instruction services are provided within the school day that will assist EL students in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English.
